Drink a glass of iced water. Take a walk and get some fresh air.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Literally cooling down your body and your brain helps to rid of your body&#8217;s fight-or-flight response. As you cool down, you&#8217;re actually activating the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK538245\/#:~:text=The%20diving%20reflex%20commonly%20referred,in%20response%20to%20water%20submersion.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mammalian diving reflex<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, kicking on your parasympathetic nervous system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This nervous system is responsible for kickstarting the process of relaxation. You can easily do this sitting quietly at your desk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start with some deep breathing, then acknowledge or mentally list out five things that you can see around you. Next, acknowledge four things that you can touch around you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, acknowledge three things you can hear. Two things you can smell. And lastly, one thing you can taste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you&#8217;ve focused on each of these senses, take a final deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">See? Doesn&#8217;t that to-do list seem a lot easier to manage now? The process can feel difficult to some who are just starting out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But over time, you&#8217;ll be able to sit and identify what physical areas require some extra breath.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>#4. <\/b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>M<\/b><\/span><b>ake a plan<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you finally feel calm, it&#8217;s time to make a plan.
