Parents, children, siblings, extended family members. Teachers, classmates, friends. Coaches, directors, bosses, advisors, mentors.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Many of these people don&#8217;t mean to add pressure to your life. But the nature of certain stressful situations makes it hard to avoid.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, a coach doesn&#8217;t want your<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/scoreboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">soccer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> game to be a stressful situation. But you may feel pressure because you want to impress them and become captain next season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or maybe you feel stressed about an upcoming audition. Not because your agent doesn&#8217;t believe in you, but because this is a role you&#8217;ve wanted to play your whole life. You feel stressed at the prospect of losing out on the opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you care about relationships, goals, and personal standards?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You will inevitably feel your stress level rise at some point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Because with those values come stakes &#8211; you feel like you have something to lose.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>So, What Do I Do to Stay Calm?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are as many ways to practice calmness as there are people on Earth. <a href=\"https:\/\/adamchristing.com\/hire-an-mc-for-corporate-events\/\">But as a corporate emcee<\/a>, here are some of the strategies I&#8217;ve both witnessed and employed myself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Here are a few examples of practices that have a calming effect:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some handle their feelings by repeating <\/span><b>calming mantras<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some process their emotions by <\/span><b>writing in a<\/b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/encyclopedia\/content.aspx?ContentID=4552&amp;ContentTypeID=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>journal<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Others stay positive by doing <\/span><b>breathing exercises<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some find it helpful to face issues head on and have scary but important <\/span><b>conversations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with people.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>There is no right or wrong way to approach calmness.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It will probably take some trial and error to figure out what works for you. Here are 8 reasons why:<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>#1: Staying Calm Helps You Concentrate<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You&#8217;ve been working on a proposal for the end-of-year marketing campaign for months. The time has finally come to present your fabulous ideas to the board of directors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You are exceptionally well-prepared for this presentation. You know the material so well, you could explain the concept backwards.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>But when you stand at the front of the boardroom to begin&#8230; your mind goes blank.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like a supervillain swooping in out of nowhere, <\/span><b>nerves strike and you lose focus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These are meant to help you deal with a threat. But in <a href=\"https:\/\/adamchristing.com\/blog\/what-is-the-role-of-the-master-of-ceremonies\/\">my time as a master of ceremonies<\/a>, I have learned one extremely important rule:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>If you can stay calm under pressure, you will have a higher and more consistent energy level.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>This is beneficial in so many aspects of life:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you can relax at work, you will have more energy to dedicate to <\/span><b>new projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Releasing pressure at home leaves more energy to have <\/span><b>fun with your family<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintaining a calm mind around your goals lets you <\/span><b>focus on taking the steps<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to accomplish them.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Stress can impact the most basic things, like your ability to:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Move your body;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manage your household;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Express your emotions respectfully;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Appreciate a special moment with loved ones.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>By staying calm in stressful situations, you leave more energy for the positive things.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>#4: Staying Calm Sparks Your Creativity<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Successful people don&#8217;t let pressure stifle their creativity.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> When we spend exorbitant amounts of time feeling stressed, we don&#8217;t make room for personal development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look &#8211; we all face anxiety-inducing situations. And we all feel tempted to let those situations bring us down. That negativity can overwhelm our minds and truly dampen our spirits.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>But when you stay calm, you can harness your emotions into something positive.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>That stress can actually transform into inspiration!<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some people translate their stress into songwriting, poetry, painting, or another <\/span><b>art form<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Others release their stress through <\/span><b>exercise and\/or sports<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still others find that it reduces their blood pressure to simply <\/span><b>hang out with friends<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and watch movies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>All of these options are viable!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea is to be intentional. Now, what I would give for daily nap time!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/cdi\/indicator-definitions\/sleep.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>one in three adults do not get enough sleep<\/b><\/a><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is a scary statistic! The consequences of sleep deprivation can be quite serious.
